December
18, 2012
Dear Broadus
Wood Families,
The tragic
events of December 14 in Newtown, Connecticut have affected us all. This unfortunate incident is a reminder that
we must continue to bond together as a community and seek positive ways to
ensure the safety and well-being of all of our children.
The Broadus
Wood staff spent yesterday focused on providing every child with the most
normal day possible and will continue to do so for the remainder of the week. The staff reported that the majority of
students have made no mention of the events on Friday. In the few instances when students made
mention of this tragic event, teachers felt comfortable addressing their
concerns and making students feel safe.
I want to
assure all of our Broadus Wood families that we take the safety of our students
very seriously. We have a crisis team in place that reviews our plan regularly
and addresses areas of concern. I have
heard from some of you and appreciate your insights, suggestions and
concerns. We are all responsible for the
safety of our children and our team, along with the division, will be using
your feedback to make improvements.
In
addition, I want to remind all of you what a large role you play in helping
make our school safe. By following the routines
and procedures that Broadus Wood families do, you make it possible for us to
identify any behavior that is not typical and may warrant our attention. For example, checking into the office when
you visit, providing notes for changes in dismissal plans, waiting until 7:45
a.m. to drop off your child and following traffic rules helps us maintain an
orderly environment.
Broadus
Wood is honored that you entrust us every day with your child. Safety always has been and always will be our
foremost concern so we can provide the quality learning experiences that all
students deserve.
Sincerely,
Kendra

New Lunch Payment Options
Dear Albemarle School Parents and Guardians:
We would like to introduce you to a new option in our payment system for student meals that will make it more convenient for you to fund your account and also allow you to monitor all purchases.
Starting today, you can establish an online account for one or more children. For a small convenience fee, you will be able to use a VISA, Master Card or Discover credit card or a debit card to add money to your child’s account. You also will be able to program your account to alert you when it reaches a low balance and to automatically provide funds on a regular basis or when the balance reaches a certain limit. Confirmation e-mails will be sent when a deposit is made.
This new capability is being provided by mySchoolBucks.com in partnership with our office. For more information and to set up your account, visit http://www.mySchoolBucks.com and register using the “Start Here” link on the right side of the page. An e-mail will be sent with a link for completing your registration and for setting up your account.
Please note that this is an additional option for making payments. Parents still may need to send cash or a check to their child’s school cafeteria.
We are pleased to be able to offer families this new opportunity to manage one of the most important purchases their children make every day. I invite you to take advantage of this new service.
