September 10 is BACK to SCHOOL Night at Broadus Wood

Back to School Night is scheduled for Tuesday, September 10. We will begin at 5:30pm in the gym with The State of The School Address. We will concluded at 5:55pm to allow parents time to attend an informational session with their child's teacher. Teachers will host two identical sessions to allow parents with multiple children to visit at least two grade levels. Session 1: 6-6:40 and Session 2: 6:50-7:30. If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

End of Summer is here!

Ten days and counting before summer is over and school is in session. I hope each of you have had an exciting and restful break. How did you spend your summer? I can hardly wait to hear about it. Here is a photo of a new addition to my family that I spent the summer getting to know.

This week teachers and staff members will return to Broadus Wood to prepare for a wonderful year of learning. We have many changes and improvements in store for you. In addition to the new teachers and staff members, we also have a SparkLab and new cafeteria furniture to share. You will be able to meet everyone and see the changes on Open House which is Monday, August 19 4:30-6:30pm. I look forward to seeing you and please enjoy your last week of vacation! Mrs. King

Dear Broadus Wood Families,

This is the final edition of enhanced communication from Mrs. King about programs, initiatives, and updates at our school for the 2012-2013 school year.  The information contained herein can also be found on our school’s website under Principal’s Message and will also be emailed to families. You will continue to receive school communications in the format of monthly phone calls/emails, quarterly newsletters, Monday Backpack Express, and postings to the school’s website.

Upcoming Changes for the 2013-2014 School Year

Redistricting: At the School Board meeting last month, it was decided that the number of students being redistricted to Broadus Wood next school year from Agnor-Hurt Elementary School.  We are estimating that about 35 new students will enroll living in the neighborhoods along Woodlands and Earlysville Roads.  We are pleased to welcome all children and their families who will be joining us next school year!  Broadus Wood staff and PTO are well prepared to make the transition smooth for everyone involved.       

Current Updates

1.     King’s Coffee: Monthly, I host a time for parents to enjoy coffee and conversation called King’s Coffee.  If you have a question or want to enjoy a “cup of joe” with other parents and me, please mark your calendar for 8:00 a.m. on April 26 and May 17. Superintendent, Dr. Pam Moran will attend on April 26.

2.     Standards of Learning (SOL) Update: The SOL tests will be administered May 20-June 5 for students in grades 3-5.  Our faculty works very hard with students all year to teach subject content, problem solving skills, and life-long learner skills.  The testing schedule is as follows:
